Use the standard conversion
Multiply kilograms by approximately 2.20462 to convert to pounds. A 12.5 kg carton is about 27.56 lb before any carrier rounding.
To convert pounds back to kilograms, multiply by approximately 0.453592 or divide by 2.20462.
Convert before or after totaling consistently
For many identical pieces, multiplying the precise per-piece weight by quantity and then converting gives a cleaner total than rounding every individual converted carton first.
If a shipping system bills per package using rounded weight, follow that system's method instead of assuming shipment-level rounding.
Do not confuse net and gross weight
Net product weight excludes packaging; gross shipping weight includes the packaging tendered with the goods. Carrier calculations generally need the packed gross figure.
Keep both fields when customs, product or warehouse documentation requires them, but label each one clearly.
A ten-package total is not a ten-package billing sum
Ten cartons at 12.5 kg each weigh 125 kg in total. The exact pound definition, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg, gives approximately 275.577828 lb for the shipment. Each carton is approximately 27.557783 lb.
If a hypothetical service rounds each package up to the next pound, ten × 28 gives 280 billable pounds. Rounding the shipment total once gives 276. Neither method changes the physical 125 kg; use the aggregation rule belonging to the actual service rather than choosing the smaller number.
