Ten identical cartons

60 × 40 × 30 cm; 10 cartons

Calculation: 0.60 × 0.40 × 0.30 × 10

Expected: 0.7200 m³

Three carton sizes in one shipment

A: 60 × 40 × 30 cm × 10; B: 50 × 35 × 25 cm × 6; C: 40 × 30 × 20 cm × 8

Calculation: 0.7200 + 0.2625 + 0.1920

Calculate one carton size or a mixed shipment

For identical cartons, enter the packed length, width, height and quantity in one row. For different carton sizes, add a row for each size. Cargoivo converts each row to cubic meters and adds the volumes; do not multiply average dimensions by the total carton count.

For example, ten cartons measuring 60 × 40 × 30 cm occupy 0.72 m³: 0.6 × 0.4 × 0.3 × 10. The mixed-shipment example above lets you compare several rows against a saved reference total.

CBM measures volume. It does not tell you the shipment's weight or prove how many cartons fit inside a container. Use volumetric weight for a space-based weight estimate and container loading for a geometric packing estimate.

How it works

A clear answer from the numbers you already have.

Enter the outer dimensions of a carton or shipment and its quantity. Cargoivo converts the measurements into total cubic meters (CBM) and cubic feet, the two volume figures most often used in freight quotes.

FormulaCBM = length (m) × width (m) × height (m) × quantity

How to use this calculator

  1. 1

Measure the longest, widest, and tallest outside points.

  2. 2

Choose the unit used on your tape measure.

  3. 3

Enter the number of identical cartons and calculate.

What to check before booking

The result is a planning estimate, not a freight quote or load-safety approval. Measure the finished package, confirm the correct carrier service and divisor, and apply the rounding method in your current contract. For pallets and containers, also verify maximum payload, door clearance, stacking strength, load restraint, and local transport rules.

Equipment specifications and tariff rules can change. Cargoivo keeps common presets visible while letting the carrier's own documentation remain the final authority.

Calculator behavior is checked with repeatable examples documented in How We Test and the Cargoivo Lab.

Frequently asked

CBM Calculator FAQ

What does CBM mean in shipping?+

CBM means cubic meter. Freight forwarders use it to express the space occupied by cargo.

How many cubic feet are in one CBM?+

One cubic meter is approximately 35.3147 cubic feet.

Should I measure the product or the carton?+

Use the packed outer carton, including bulges and protective material, because that is the space the shipment occupies.
