UPS-Style DIM Weight Example

Compare 139 and 166 divisors on one package to understand rate-program differences.

UPS U.S.: distinguish Daily and Retail

UPS lists divisor 139 for Daily rates and 166 for Retail rates. Its current measurement instructions round fractional inches and pounds up. The two rate types must not be presented as interchangeable.

Reproduce the example

For 20 × 15 × 10 in and actual weight 12 lb, Daily gives ceil(3000 ÷ 139) = 22 lb. Retail gives ceil(3000 ÷ 166) = 19 lb. These are base-weight comparisons before other rating conditions.

Scope and limits

The comparison is a planning calculation for rectangular parcels, not a rate quote. Additional handling, large-package minimum weights, oversize pricing, service eligibility and negotiated terms are not calculated. Measure the finished package and verify the exact service before booking.
